Official word

The official name of The Red Planet is acute follicular conjunctivitis according to the super duper eye doc at the hospital. That's fancy talk for the Mother of all pink eye. No bacteria, no allergic reaction...just super duper pink eye diagnosed from the super duper eye doctor.

The Red Planet

The saga continues...

Jamie's eye is a bit better, but it's still pretty nasty. The swelling has gone down a lot, but it's still really red. There are no more wrinkles in the eyeball, and no iron or spray starch was needed to smooth it out.

Yesterday was a follow up with the GP. She sent him to an opthamologist. That doc changed the script again and is sending him to the super duper eye specialist at the hospital. Apparently, the consensus is that it is some type of bacterial infection that is resistant to the antibiotics.

There have been calls for pics of the funky eye. I will post one later today...now that it's healed a bit and not looking like something from outer space.

Oh, and Jay, that same oracle once told me, "Thank god a Habs fan you are because the Leafs suck. Yes, they do."

Diagnosis

The ER doc says Jamie has horrific pink eye coupled with an allergic reaction of some sort. Not sure what the allergic reaction is to. Nevertheless, it's there. After changing some of the medication, he should see improvement in 48 hours. If not, back to the ER....and to the big ER with eye specialists...yay!

Red, wrinkle eye

Jamie is in the emergency room right now. He went to the doctor because his left eye was red and swollen, and it hurt. The doc said it was the worst case of pink eye she had ever seen. She gave him some meds and said if it got worse in the next 48 hours to go to emergency.

So, today it wasn't better, and his eye was actually wrinkly. Yes, there were like folds in his eyeball...kinda freaky. I feel very badly that he is there by himself. With the baby, I dropped him off around 1:30 this afternoon, and it's now almost 4:30. No word yet...we'll see what happens.

I know he's old, but a wrinkly eye...come on!

Rufus

I'm sorry to say that Rufus, Nicole's dog, passed away last night in his sleep. He had gotten very sick the past few days. Nicole isn't sure of his age, but the vet over the years has guessed around 15 years old. Nicole gave him a great life in Louisiana and Oklahoma. I'm sure Copper is sad that her Old Man isn't there anymore, but I think they will remember Rufus as the loving, if not very smart, Old Man of the house.

I will remember him as the dog who followed Copper when she broke free from her leash while I was house/dog sitting one weekend, while my sanity crept further away from me. Those big, floppy ears running down the street while "Born Free" played in the background. Panic ensued, and we got them back:)

Spring dress

Here's baby girl in her spring dress Paw-Paw gave her. She's having trouble napping because it's just so damn fun standing!

Turntables and tubas

On Friday we saw Buck 65 with Symphony Nova Scotia as the end of the Maritime Pop Series for this season. The whole show was so amazing. I'm at a loss for words for how to describe this show. Buck is an amazing poet, mostly a poet in my opinion, with a skill for scratchin records. During one of his breathless lyrical flows, I noticed that not only does he write amazing lyrics and fill the space between with dope beats he also uses his voice like its a turntable itself. Buck uses his voice as if it's another turntable where he can express what each song is for him.

Awesome show. When he comes back to Halifax, I'll be there.

Motorboat, motorboat

She's putting her face in the water and loving it! It's really cool to see her get so excited about the pool. We love the water so much, so I'm glad she's not one of those whiny kids who doesn't like to get wet or go under. I was like a fish in the summer when I was a kid, still am when I can be, so we're going to have tons of fun during the Portage in the Sportage '08!

Pick-up pedicures

Evie and I threw a spa party for Shelly, since she hasn't seen her toes in about 2 months. She's due May 7th, so Baby C will make it's arrival fairly shortly. But, in the meantime, we thought she needed a totally relaxing afternoon where she could get those toes ready for the nurses at the IWK.

I found the "service providers" (I'm not sure what else to call them) on Kijiji. I didn't know much about them other than the seller's other ads included help with smoking cessation and anxiety problems. The ad did state licensed esthetician providing manicure/pedicure services. Well, Shell, Evie and I are standing in Evie's living room and we hear what sounds like a Mack truck coming up her road. No, we were wrong....it's the nail ladies pulling up in their double cab turquoise-colored pick-up...hence pick-up pedis (props to Evie for the terminology:)

They were pretty good except the 15 year-old giving manicures...um, I'm thinking she was not licensed, unless you count painting your cousins nails while your mom and aunts talk about their baby daddies.

Nevertheless, we had a good time, and I think Shell enjoyed herself. Now if she has a girl she'll be exposed to the pedicured foot from the get go:)

Oh, and if any readers would like tuning fork therapy, I can pass along my contact's name and number.

180 hook kicks that feel like 180 side kicks

So another TKD class tonight. My speed is coming back bit by bit. Every class I see improvement with that. I would have thought that my flexibility would have been even greater than before when I came back after the baby. But, I'm noticing that in some ways it's worse. When I'm stretching, I seem more flexible, then when I'm trying to do high kicks, it's not there. What gives??

I had a really good 180 hook kick before the baby, and now it's like I'm hooking someone's chest...um, that's not going to work. When I'm aiming for the side of the head and I'm hitting the chest - that's a problem. I'm glad to see some improvement each class....I just want it to come faster than it is.

I learn and improve by repetition, so I need to spend 1 hour straight about 3 times a week doing hook kicks. The gear we have in Song-ho's new digs is great. It's so much easier practicing and improving when you've got someone holding a kicking shield or coming at you with a pad. I used to get Jamie to hold the kicking pad or put on my hogoo, but that always ended badly....for Jamie. Not because of inaccurate kicking, but improper gear....my hogoo is too small for him so it doesn't really protect him like it should. You also need to learn how to hold the pads for the different kicks. The hogoo not fitting and him not knowing how to hold the pad led to some bumps and bruises.

So, I'll keep at it with TKD twice a week and hope those hook kicks come up some so I can knock that challenger on her ass in another competition.

She forgets she can't walk

Sorry I've been MIA lately. Spring has finally sprung in Nova Scotia, and I've been outside doing stuff...hanging clothes on the line, cleaning off the deck, cleaning out all of the winter blah out of the car...The tulip and hyacinth bulbs are starting to come up.

Here are some pics from the last couple of weeks. Her newest thing is standing up at the living room window and looking outside. She could do that forever ... those leaves blowing by and the cars driving by are just so damn funny!

She's just plum tuckered out from all the fun in her new Habs outfit (for the Americans reading, the Montreal Canadians NHL team is referred to as the Habs up here).

Update

I haven't posted in a while. I've been feeling pretty crappy with sinus stuff bothering me. I'm also planning a couple of showers (one bridal and one spa party), and I constantly pull live wires out of my child's mouth. That's about all.

I've got some new pics to upload, but that would require me to go downstairs to that computer, upload the photos and post them on the blog. Right now I'm cozy on the couch with the laptop; I'm going to drink my tea, play with the baby and do my part of her bedtime routine....diaper and clothes change and a nice baby massage. Jamie does the book and the bottle and the bed. It's a good little routine we have going...I wish somebody would massage my body with lotion, change me into my PJs, read me a book, feed me and gently place me in bed.
