Gettin' ready

I haven't posted in a while because I'm starting to realize that we have few days until the Portage in the Sportage '08 begins, and there's a lot to do before we go.

I'll be posting on the road and giving updates, so stay tuned. I'm trying to book us places on the road with wireless internet. I've got to have something to do when the baby goes to sleep. We'll see how much sleep we all get with a playpen set up in one room with our bed....hum, I'm hoping for the best.

We're leaving July 3rd, but before then we'll have a birthday celebration for Jamie with his family and countless soccer games...

No Officer I haven't been drinking

Life Lesson #4: Don't go to taekwondo class immediately following a root canal.

Yesterday I went to my dentist for a regular cleaning and what I thought was a filling to replace an old filling. Back in April I had gone in because I was having a bad toothache. My dentist was on vacation, so I saw another one in the practice. He said a crown was needed because of a cracked tooth. My dentist came back and said, no, no, just replace the filling on the tooth. So, I go in yesterday, and he tells me I need a root canal. This tooth has been sensitive to hot and cold for about a year now. So, I'm all, "Hell yeah! Do it if it fixes the problem." Then I ask if I can go to my taekwondo class right after the appointment. No problem I'm told.

While the dental dam is on and they are about to start, the assistant mentions I will be back in 2 weeks to get the permanent filling. Um, no, we have the Portage in the Sportage '08. So, they put a more permanent temporary filling in to last me until I get back from the trip.

All is good, I can't feel half my face, but I go to class. Not a good idea. I don't know what they freeze your mouth/face with at the dentist office, but I couldn't move the whole left side of my body like I wanted to. Something was off the whole class. Then during our breaks I'm trying to drink water, and it's all dribbling down my chin and my uniform. Not to mention my speech is sort of slurred because the entire left side of my mouth and some of my face is frozen.

I got through class, and with the help of the ibuprofen I popped right before class, I wasn't in too much pain. Although the headache and toothache was starting as I drove home. You know when something is off in your body and you can't put your finger on it, but you know that something is not right? That's how I felt all night.

Lesson learned.

Nicole's heaven

Today on the Martha Stewart Show, it's knitting & crochet day. The whole audience is knitting during the show. The piece de resistance....yarn made from your dog's hair. EEEWWWW! Martha is knitting a muffler for one of her dogs from the hair from another dog. I'm all into reduce, reuse, recycle, but I have to draw the line here. This is disgusting. Nicole, if you ever knit something from B or Copper's fur, I just might hurl.

Baby steps

Navarre took a half a step today. I wouldn't call it a whole step, but a half step...soon she'll be running!

We have also confirmed our child care for September!!!!! I'm so happy with the woman who will be looking after her; I feel so comfortable with our choice. Now the Portage in the Sportage '08 can begin!!!!

She's a dancin', dancin', dancin', dancin' machine

Saturday was Shaina's birthday. We went up to New Glasgow for the night and had a great time...
I am happy to report that the annual Shaina dance-off continued with 2 numbers and a guest appearance by Ben, or also known as Ben-Jammin'. Shaina's hip hop routine was a classic in her "ghetto shirt". Ben's guest appearance in the Dixie Chicks dance was priceless. Even though Ben had some super cool moves, I would suggest some classes...yea

Just prior to this dancing interlude, I discovered my third life lesson. I'd like to take credit for this one, but I cannot. Shaina, the newest member of the 31 club, came up with this fine piece of wisdom.

Life Lesson #3: "Practice rounds are for pussies."

Thinking back to all the times someone says, "Let's just do the first round for practice," I totally agree with this.

Today is Father's Day, so I want to give a shout out to my Dad - best Dad south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and to Jamie - Navarre's rad Dad. You're the best:)

Leslie's Life Lessons

#1: Always pack a swimsuit...even if you're travelling for a funeral. You never know when an opportunity will present itself.

#2: If you are ever in an airport and your flight is listed on the board as "On Time", but there is no gate number assigned to it, haul ass to the Service Center and inquire.

Swirling, swirling

My head is swirling. Navarre and I had our big trip home from May 26-June 3rd. We had a great time; we both got sick. LSU won the Regional and subsequently the Super Regional for a trip to Omaha. My Paw-Paw passed away on June 5th. It wasn't unexpected, but still upsetting. So, I headed back on June 6th and returned to Hali yesterday.

Navarre didn't make the second trip with me. She wasn't quite 100% yet, and I was too sick to make that trip with her again...it's a long trip for her. Nicole and T drove in for the weekend. It was nice seeing the extended family, but wish it could have been under better circumstances.

Now, I've got a priority list of things that have to get done before the big Portage in the Sportage '08. First on that list is finding child care for September. We had this all squared away, and then the (there are not enough vulgar cuss words in the book for me to describe how I feel about this woman now) woman backed out on us. So, that's #1. A couple of gift projects is #2. Then all of the house/financial/appointment stuff to do before we leave.

Not much time for blogging, but will try to keep posting....
